Summer Organizing Internships Now Available!

 

Join the movement to support farmworker organizing!  Working with FLOC you will gain hands on experience with union and campaing organizing.  We need interns and volunteers to help with worker outreach, organizing campaign activies, fundraising, and many other activities.

 


 

Position: Outreach and Campaign Intern

Location: Dudley, North Carolina

Start Date: May (flexible)

End date: Late August/early September (start/end dates are flexible)

 

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

Interns will play an integral role in assisting organizers with camp outreach,and organizing campaign activies to support the Reynolds Campaign.  The internship will provide valuable job experience in union organizing, human rights training, and working on a corporate campaign.   

 

Intern responsibilities include:

 

·         Visiting labor camps and speaking with workers about the union, our contract, and the RJ Reynolds Campaign

·         Assisting with organizing regional worker meetings and coordinating drivers

·         Networking with other unions labor rights organizations to increase solidarity and support for FLOC’s campaign

·         Reaching out to community members and other organizations to build support for the Reynolds campaign

·         Organizing community actions/protests around the Reynolds Campaign

·         Data entry

·         Mapping labor camp locations

·         Working with organizers to maintain accurate records of camp visits and locations and communication with members

·         Maintaining records of community supporters

·         Assisting community members with copies, faxes, paperwork, etc.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Spanish speaking ability is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice/labor rights issues
  • Basic computer, writing, and administrative skills
  • Outgoing and social, able to network easily with other advocates, supporters, and workers
  • Must have valid driver’s license and a car and be willing to drive for work
  • Experience with conducting and documenting research

 

COMMITMENT

We are looking for interns who can work until the end of August or beginning of September. Start/end dates are negotiable (earlier start date is preferred).  Ideal interns will be available 15-20 hours per week, able to travel to Dudley office at least one day per week, and available at 1-2 evenings per week for camp visits. Some work can be done from home. We are unable to offer compensation for this position, but are willing to work with students to support university funding/credit for the internship.
