Rina Lazo and Arturo Bustos visit US in support of justice for NC tobacco farmworkers
Diego Rivera described Rina Lazo as "a painter of great talent. My beloved friend, my right hand, the best of my assistants." Her husband Arturo Garcia Bustos was one of the artists working closely with Frida Kahlo known as Los Fridos. Both artists worked with Diego for ten years and became accomplished muralists known throughout the Americas.
In addition, Arturo founded the Taller de Gafica Popular (Popular Graphics Workshop) where he and other graphic artists produced prints in support of union struggles.
Bustos has created a special edition (left), signed and numbered print by called "Tierra en manos campesinas, (Earth in Farm Worker's Hands)" which he has donated to support FLOC's Campaign for Migrant Worker Justice. In truth, the print is worth more than the $100 we are selling it for.
Some unions and law firms are purchasing multiple prints and giving them as gifts to their board, special visitors or law partners. These are hand printed on heavy archival paper. Everyone who has purchased one has been overjoyed.
